In a pinch? Looking for somewhere fun to take the family today? Check out the Smithsonian National Zoological Park. 


The Zoo is a great place for children and adults of all ages. The Smithsonian National zoo sits on 163 beautiful acres featuring over 2000 animals and about 400 different species. 


The national zoo is putting on a light show display that is available to see until January 4th


Know Before you go 

  1. Check the weather and dress accordingly. While there are lots of indoor exhibits and activities, there are still lots ofh animals to see outside.

  2. Entry is FREE but parking is $30 per car. 

  3. The Zoo lights show does not specifically feature animals all indoor exhibits will be closed

  4. Zoo Lights tickets cost $6 per guest and $30 parking. ( all proceeds go to animal care and conservation science at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute.

  5. The Zoo is closed on Christmas 

  6. The Panda Exhibit is currently closed but is scheduled to reopen January 24, 2025

  7. While The Smithsonian's National Zoo has a variety of dining and shopping options. Visitors are welcome to bring their own food and snacks into the Zoo
