As fall approaches, apple picking becomes one of the most beloved seasonal activities in Virginia. With orchards offering fresh apples, delicious treats, and fun family activities, it’s the perfect way to enjoy the crisp autumn air. Here are some of the best apple-picking spots in Virginia:

1. Carter Mountain Orchard

At Carter Mountain Orchard, you can pick your own apples straight from the trees or choose from pre-picked apples in their farm store. Don't miss the apple cider slushies, donuts, pumpkins, and unique crafts available for purchase. If you plan to visit on weekends starting from September 14, be sure to get a ticketed admission.

2. Grave’s Mountain Lodge

During the Apple Harvest Festival, Grave’s Mountain Lodge offers a picturesque apple-picking experience with many additional activities, including pony rides, hayrides, a petting zoo, a hay mountain, a maze, and a pumpkin patch. It’s a fun-filled event for families looking to make the most of their autumn weekend.

3. Great Country Farms

Take a wagon ride to the apple orchard at Great Country Farms for a fun and relaxing apple-picking day. This farm is perfect for families and those wanting a bit of adventure while enjoying the fall harvest.

4. Hartland Orchard

Hartland Orchard offers a traditional "pick your own" apple experience. However, remember to bring cash or a check since they do not accept card payments.

5. Stribling Orchard

Stribling Orchard offers not just apple picking, but also a charming farm experience with farm animals, picnic areas, and a bakery selling cider, pies, local honey, and more. It’s an idyllic spot to spend a leisurely fall day with the family.
