September has arrived, and even with the kids back in school, there’s still a wide variety of fun family activities and events to enjoy throughout Fredericksburg, Stafford, and Spotsylvania. You don’t need to spend a fortune to have a great time with the kids. We’ve rounded up many free and low-priced activities for September 2024. Just remember, some of these events may require advance registration, so be sure to check the details before you head out.

September 6 Activities

  1. Card Making for Childhood Cancer
    Create a heartfelt card to bring hope and encouragement to those affected by childhood cancer!
  2. Soggy Doggy Swim
    Bring your furry friends, 12 weeks and older, to splash in the Doris E. Buffett Pool! Make sure your pups are up to date on their vaccinations. Half of all proceeds will benefit the Fredericksburg SPCA.
  3. One Night Only Concert
    Grab your blankets or lawn chairs and come listen to the Don Brown Band.
  4. Family Movie Night: "Finding Dory"
    Bring your lawn chairs, sit back, and relax while enjoying a movie under the stars.
  5. Family Movie Night at the YMCA: "Disney’s LUCA"
    Join us for a fun family movie night! Grab your lawn chairs and watch "Luca" under the stars! Proceeds benefit our preschool program.

September 7 Activities

  1. Home Depot Kids Workshop
    Join us on the first Saturday of each month for free in-person Kids Workshops—while supplies last!
  2. Drool in the Pool
    Bring your four-legged friend for a refreshing swim at Drool in the Pool! All well-behaved dogs are welcome.

September 8 Activities

  1. Fredericksburg Nationals Game Day
    Adoptive families are invited to join the Children's Home Society of Virginia and the Northern Post Adoption Consortium for a free game at the Fredericksburg Nationals Stadium, where they'll enjoy an afternoon of baseball, fun, and excitement. This event is open to adoptive families with children ages 0-18 living within the NPAC service region.
  2. Possums for Reading
    Join Fredericksburg Parent and Possum- bilities in the 'Burg for a possum-filled Storytime each month!

September 14 Events

  1. Apple Science - Littlest Lab Coats
    Join us for Littlest Lab Coats, where preschoolers gain knowledge through observation, experimentation, and play.
  2. Family Day - Robotics
    Join the Education Staff at the National Museum of the Marine Corps for a robotics-focused Family Day event! Participants will interact with various local robotics groups, learn the basics of robotics, and more. Activities are tailored to all age groups, and the event is free to the public.

September 22 Events

  1. Wilderness Fall Fest
    Enjoy a day of fun activities for the whole family, including a moon bounce, hayrides, games, DJs, vendors, food trucks, and much more! Day and activity pass for the Wilderness Presidential Resort will be available for purchase, too.
