Ron Rosner YMCA: Making Healthy Routines Easier

The Ron Rosner YMCA is Your Partner for Developing a Fitness Routine that Sticks

On the long list of things busy parents have to do each day, fitting in a workout can seem nearly impossible. But healthy parents are the foundation of healthy families, and making time to take care of yourself in this way can have ripple effects that will benefit your entire household.

The Ron Rosner Family YMCA in Spotsylvania County offers a variety of services that can make it easier for you to keep a fitness routine going amid the constant demands of life with kids.

Childcare While You Work Out

The YMCA’s Kidz Corner has expanded its hours to open up more opportunities for parents to drop children off while they work out on-site during the day. And as of this spring, members no longer need to sign up ahead of time for Kidz Zone slots—just drop in and get moving!

Our childcare is a lot more than just babysitting—we follow lesson plans for various age groups and offer a Kids’ Gym until noon on weekdays to keep older children active. Families can access up to three hours of care per day for on-site workouts.

Kidz Corner Hours:

  • Monday – Thursday: 9 am-8 pm
  • Friday: 9 am-12 pm
  • Saturday: 9 am-1 pm

Options for Every Fitness Style

The key to a fitness routine that sticks is finding something you can look forward to doing day after day. Variety abounds at the Ron Rosner Family YMCA. Our Wellness Center is stocked with state-of-the-art cardio and resistance training equipment. This year, we have added Peloton bikes to the mix, giving members access to an entire catalog of high-quality digital classes. Choose from a diverse array of group fitness options, from dance-themed Zumba and Werq, to challenging TRX and High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) classes. From lap swimming to water aerobics, to pickleball lessons, there’s an activity for everyone at the Y.

A Personal Approach Can Make a World of Difference

Don’t know where to start? You’re not alone. Lots of people feel intimidated by the idea of building a fitness routine from scratch. The Ron Rosner YMCA’s team of certified personal trainers is here to help you develop a fitness habit that fits your goals and lifestyle. Our trainers are passionate about helping more people access the physical and emotional benefits that regular exercise brings. To get started, just talk to us at the front desk!

In their own words, here are some of the habits and practices that keep our trainers going on their own fitness journeys.

What habits help you to stay on track with your fitness goals?

  • Maintain a healthy sleep schedule aiming for at least 7 hours of quality sleep nightly.
  • Schedule workouts and add them to your weekly calendar.
  • Always take the stairs and park at the far end of the parking lot.
  • Write a list and shop the perimeter of the grocery store. This is where you’ll find fresh fruits, vegetables, whole-grain carbs and protein. Don’t get lured in to making impulse purchases from those “end cap” sales.
What is one daily practice or activity that has made a difference in your wellness--whether it be fitness, nutrition or mental-health related.

I want my clients to realize that there are no quick fixes in health and wellness. Fad diets, shakes, pills, or excessive workouts aren’t the magic key to lifelong health, nor are they realistic options for most. Creating sustainable long-term lifestyle changes that support health and wellness is my secret to optimal health.

What habits help you to stay on track with your fitness goals?

Stay moving. This could be as simple as a walk with my husband and son. A quick YouTube yoga video. It doesn’t have to be a grueling hour-long work out. That’s not achievable for some people. Find something realistic that you can consistently do. Something you enjoy! A small change is a step in the right direction!

What is one daily practice or activity that has made a difference in your wellness--whether it be fitness, nutrition or mental-health related.

Staying hydrated. Especially going into the hotter months. A well-hydrated body can do wonders for your energy level and overall well-being!

The friends I make in the Wellness center and the shared fitness journey we are on.

What is one daily practice or activity that has made a difference in your wellness--whether it be fitness, nutrition or mental-health related.

Daily meditation on my blessings and still having the ability to work out and meet my fitness goals.
