Choosing a preschool with an environment that promotes learning and fun—and feels safe for the child and parents—is an important endeavor. Hazelwild Farm Country Day Preschool in Fredericksburg provides a structured learning environment interspersed with relaxation and coordinated activities geared to the age and ability of each child.
Hazelwild’s teachers are professionals who have experience in public and private schools, as well as training in early childhood education and development. The preschool is focused on the child’s development in a stimulating, but relaxed atmosphere.
They teach reading via a phono-visual method and covered in steps that include teaching:
- All initial consonant sounds
- All initial and final consonant sounds
- Vowel sounds
In science, children learn about animals, plants, the sea and prehistoric life, as well as weather, transportation and the five senses. The curriculum is rounded out by a social studies program focused on school and family life, other cultures, current events and community service.
Situated on 600 beautiful acres of Anna Elizabeth Morrison’s ancestral homestead, Hazelwild is an idyllic location for learning. Morrison was a dairy farmer, teacher and coach who established the Hazelwild Farm Educational Foundation to continue the career she devoted her life to—education and caring for children. A non-profit organization, the Foundation, in Morrison’s honor, is dedicated to the academic and physical development of children.
The preschool is geared for children ages 3 to 4, and enrollment is limited.
