Top Ten Tuesday: Random Acts Of Kindness

Nov 17, 2014 08:15PM ● By Fredericksburg Parent Staff

The Holidays are such a great time to start practicing random acts of kindness! These don't have to be elaborate gestures either. Sometimes even a smile or kind words can change a person's whole day. Here are a few simple acts to get you started!

Top Ten Random Acts Of Kindness.

1.Leave a big tip. It doesn't have to be Kanye-sized, just something a little larger than expected. Customer service is HARD, guys. I can guarantee this will 100% make someone’s day.

2.Pay for the person behind you in line. The Starbucks drive through is a great place to do this! Simply explain to the barista what you would like to do. It’s actually very simple on their end. Who knows, maybe you’ll start a pay-it-forward chain!

3.Call a loved one you haven’t spoken to in awhile. Make time to really have a conversation with them and be present. With text messaging, gchat, and Facebook Messenger, we rarely take the time to fully enjoy each other’s presence. Be all in.

4.Sponsor a dog from Dog Krazy's Angel Tree. Our furry, four legged community needs some love, too!

5.Bring someone dinner on an extra busy night. We all know what it's like to burn the candle at both ends! Offer to bring dinner to someone who may be struggling to find time to simply breathe. Make sure you deliver it in containers they can either keep or dispose of. Don't feel like it has to be an elaborate from scratch meal, either. Sometimes Chipotle is better than a bouquet of roses!

6.Let someone else go first. Either in line at Target, the grocery store, or merging onto 95. You never know what kind of day someone else has had. Give a little nod, smile, and let someone else step ahead.

7.Really, really wash your partner’s car. If you have kids, you know what a hot mess your car can look like inside and outside! Find a Saturday morning to take your loved one’s car to get washed, vacuumed, and tires pumped.

8.Do that chore they always hate. This goes for your kiddos, too! Take out the trash, fold the laundry, scoop dog poo; whatever chore they hate the most, secretly tackle it while they’re not looking.

9.Switch to reusable snack bags, produce bags, and water bottles. These small little changes can make a huge impact on our environment. Let’s all be a little kinder to our planet. Pssst… Wegmans has reusable produce bags for $1.99 in the produce aisle.

10.Watch your friend’s kids. We all need a break from our kids every now and then. Offer to watch a loved one's kids without any expectation of having the favor returned.
