In the years since we opened our doors in Spotsylvania County in 2003, the Ron Rosner Family YMCA has grown to become a hub of family activities in this growing part of the Fredericksburg region.

Members say it themselves when they walk in our doors: “This place feels like home.”

Later this year, the Ron Rosner Family YMCA will debut an exciting expansion that will give members new and old additional ways to enjoy this community hub that has something to offer every generation in your family.

Our 8,800-square-foot expansion wing will include:

• A spin room with 15 bikes
• Two racquetball courts
• Sauna and steam room
• A classroom that can house a range of educational programs for the community
• Dedicated space that will improve our offerings in therapeutic wellness and functional training.

Expanded offerings for people of all abilities

The expansion will allow the Ron Rosner Family YMCA to expand offerings in therapeutic wellness. These programs help people of all ages who have limitations in their movements due to chronic illness, injury, recovery from a medical treatment or other event. The Rappahannock Area Family YMCA offers a range of therapeutic wellness programs—targeting everything from Parkinson’s disease, to stroke rehabilitation, to diabetes management—at its four branches.

This expansion will allow us to expand therapeutic wellness offerings at the Ron Rosner branch in Spotsylvania.

“With this building opening, we will be able to double the number of people we are able to service,” said Alicia Kindred, Executive Director of the Ron Rosner Family YMCA.

In addition to therapeutic wellness, the new space will also include a dedicated room for functional training. This is one-on-one, personalized training that focuses on strength. Having a separate room for these personalized sessions will make functional training at the Ron Rosner Branch an even better offering for our members.

A Mind, Body, Spirit room in the expanded wing will be a welcoming venue for enriching classes for our membership, including family yoga and other offerings we hope to add.

 

More to enjoy with your membership

All of this, plus the pool, gymnasium, wellness center, group fitness studio, Kidz Corner nursery, youth classrooms and inclusive playground for all abilities, are available to members of the Rappahannock Area Family YMCA.

Family memberships include up to three hours of child care in our children’s facilities, which provide a lot more than just babysitting.

“They have lesson plans, and they are going to make sure your children are engaged and entertained with arts and crafts, science, reading, kids’ gym and more,” Kindred said.

Care is available for children ages 6 weeks through 12 years.

 

Our community makes this possible

The Ron Rosner Family YMCA is proud to serve Fredericksburg-area residents from our location in Spotsylvania County, but the truth is that we would not be here without the support of our community.

For the expansion project, our Board of Directors launched a $1.1 million capital campaign. We are getting very close to that goal, with a big thanks to the Rosner family for their continued strong support of this facility.

YMCA C.R.E.W. supports those who serve us all during COVID-19 crisis

The Rappahannock Area Family YMCA is providing free childcare to children of essential workers at three different sites in the Fredericksburg region.

As a trusted child-care provider for decades, the YMCA is honored to provide this service to help hospital teams and other essential workers provide critical community care without worrying about childcare. We have screening protocols in place and a full curriculum for children registered for the YMCA C.R.E.W. (Childcare Relief for Essential Workers) program.

This support system for those who are serving our community during the Covid-19 crisis is made possible by more than $100,000 in donations raised from within our community. The fact that individuals made this level of contributions over less than a week’s fundraising time is a testament to the enormous heart that residents of the Fredericksburg region have for stepping up when a need exists.

Childcare is available at Hugh Mercer Elementary School in Fredericksburg, Parkside Elementary School in Spotsylvania County and Stafford Elementary School in Stafford County.

As defined by Gov. Ralph Northam, essential workers include public health employees, criminal justice personnel, shelter employees, utility and sanitation workers, essential transportation employees, child-care workers and custodial and kitchen workers, as well as healthcare workers and first responders.

Each location can care for up to 100 children. Care is available Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. for children ages 5 through 12.

This emergency childcare adheres to social distancing guidelines to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus.

Special practices such as purchasing extra art supplies so that children do not share items, and extra cleaning and disinfecting allow these children to receive quality care in a safe environment.

The YMCA is extremely appreciative of the donors who have enabled us to offer this care at no cost, so that these essential workers can serve our community, and allow us to stay home to slow the spread of Covid-19.
