Top Ten Fourth Of July Celebrations In And Around The 'Burg!

 

1) Washington D.C - Obvious choice? Yes. But what better place to celebrate our country's independence than in our nation's capital? To make the celebration easier logistically, the VRE is running their annual "Firecracker Trains" on both the Fredericksburg and Manassas Lines to downtown Washington, DC for Fourth of July Fireworks 2015. Trains will come northbound in the afternoons and will return southbound approximately an hour after the fireworks end.

2) Ashland - Looking for an old time Fourth of July? Check out Ashland! This quirky little parade begins at 11:00AM followed by a patriotic concert with Hanover Concert Band, food, games, Patriotic Pet Contest, Apple Pie Contest winners and more! The parade will have a bicycle, Bassett hound, and lawn chair brigade and so much more!

3) Richmond-  There will be several Fourth Of July celebrations in Richmond. We think the Fourth of July at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden looks really special. Garden visitors will receive free admission throughout the day (9 a.m. – 5 p.m.) The free admission includes entrance to the popular Butterflies LIVE! exhibit. The Garden is open 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. with scheduled activities in the Children's Garden from 1 - 4 p.m. Guests are invited to wear red, white and blue and bring wagons and strollers to decorate for a "parade" in the Children's Garden at 2 p.m. Enjoy music by the Happy Lucky Combo, water play and fun activities. What's not to love?

4) Charlottesville -  July 4th. Fun fact: Did you know Monticello is the home of the author of the Declaration of Independence, Thomas Jefferson? Since 1963, more than 3,000 people from every corner of the globe have taken the oath of citizenship at the annual Monticello Independence Day Celebration and Naturalization Ceremony. Celebrate our nation's independence with a few of our newest citizens.

5) King George - July 4th. Visit Belle Grove Plantation, the birthplace of James Madison!  See artifacts from 3,000 BC to the 1900s. Learn about the history of Belle Grove as a Colonial Port in the 1600s to the Civil War and John Wilkes Booth, and about how Belle Grove was an important farm during the recovery of Virginia Agriculture. Also... ghost stories of the past and current haunting! Funds raised goes to the preservation, restoration, education and improvement of Belle Grove Plantation.

6) Stratford - July 4th, 9:30am - 5:00pm. FREE family friendly event! There will be face painting, a barrel- train, miniature animals, geo-caching, period costumes, a scavenger hunt, live music and MORE.

7) Spotsylvania - Jun. 27, 3:00pm  - The Spotsylvania Stars and Stripes Spectacular - Join family, friends and neighbors for this hometown, all-day family event. Be prepared for an afternoon of food, family, live music FIREWORKS, and fun! Shuttle bus service will be available from Courtland High School starting at 2:45 p.m. and running until the end of the night.

8) Culpeper - Jul. 4 -  Culpeper's Independence Day Celebration is filled with sporting events, the 4th of July Car & Bike Show, patriotic speeches, a festive parade, games for all ages and of course fireworks to delight everyone! All-in-all? A great day of patriotism & fun

9)  Fredericksburg City - Jul. 4 - The Fourth Of July At Ferry Farm- Celebrate Independence Day at George Washington's Boyhood Home at Ferry Farm! Enjoy Colonial and Civil War re-enactors, educational programs, Washington farm archeology, festive music, crafts and exhibitors, games, and hands-on activities for the whole family.

10) Falmouth / Downtown Fredericksburg- Jul. 4 - The Heritage Festival and Fireworks. The big show. This festival has everything... a patriotic parade, street festival, raft race, five-mile run, a tour of George Washington's Boyhood home and FIREWORKS! Pratt Park opens at 4:30pm. Be sure to remember lawn chairs, water, and a picnic dinner. You can also view the fireworks from Old Mill Park. Fireworks are tentatively scheduled for around 9:15pm.
