Health Care
Egg Allergies?
You can still get the H1N1 vaccination even if you have egg allergies, says Dr. Peter Smith of Allergy Partners of Fredericksburg. An egg allergy can be a contraindication for the H1N1 vaccination, but with the proper precautions it is still possible to protect yourself and your family. Be sure to see an allergist for your vaccination. The allergist will do a skin test to see if you are still sensitive to eggs. If you are, the doctor can use a graded dose protocol--from two or five small amounts of vaccination given over an hour while you are monitored closely. Dr. Smith urges the community to try to get the vaccine if possible. Don't let an egg allergy stop you!
