Thanks to Science Saturdays mentors

Hello everyone,

Thank you all so very much for all your time and effort and caring that you put into the Fredericksburg Parent and Family, Girl Scout "Science Saturday"/IEEE Girls Go Engineering Day this past weekend. There were 20 girls who now appreciate some of the skills and content (and fun!) of being an engineer, all because you took the time to be a mentor. Twenty girls now know that there are women who are doing exciting projects in exciting careers that are within their reach and dreams.

Please share our very special thanks with all the mentors you brought to this special event.

There is a special note to add to our thanks. I attended a reception the Girl Scout council held last evening in Fredericksburg to celebrate local volunteerism and invite more community members to share. Soon after I walked in, a troop leader walked up to me and asked whether I had led the Engineering Day, and I responded that yes, I had been a part of the event with many mentors. She continued to say that her daughter is a tough critic on events, and that when she left our event Saturday, she couldn't stop talking all the way home about all the things she had done and all the cool careers that the women engineers had. The leader said it was amazing! She especially noted that her daughter thought it was so cool that one lady had a career so successful that she was able to buy her own (flooring) company and keep doing engineering! (Please thank Sylvia Allen!).

Wow! What a wonderful story to report – I know it made my whole day, and I hope it adds a smile to your day as well. And of course, I shared it with the council CEO and staff at the reception last evening too!

Thanks everyone; keep up the great work you have started!
Lynn
