Play with Your Plate
LOVE to eat out with the kids but HATE the fried food options most restaurants offer?
Look no further!
FredParent has teamed up with Doctor Yum
, the 'Burg's very own healthy eating expert (she's a local pediatrician too!) to help local eateries create healthy and delicious kids meals.
Check out the yummu menus at our partner restaurants, Baba Ganoush
, Capital Ale House
, The Trolley Stop Deli
and Foode
.
Kids will also live the new interactive placemats at each of these great places, all designed by local UMW art students, Ashleigh Buyers, Marie Hamilton and Katie Sleyman. They designed our new Play with Your Plate logo too!
More on our latest addition, Baba Ganoush...
We are thrilled to announce the newest restaurant to join "Play with Your Plate" ~ Baba Ganoush in the Eagle Village. Stop by and check out a newly designed menu with options for everyone from the pickiest toddler to the most adventurous 10 year-old. A cheese pizza and "Peanut Butter and Jelly Pinwheels" are familiar tastes but made with on fresh Naan bread. A mildly spiced "Kiddie Chicken Curry" and Chicken Kabob are great introductions to some Eastern spices. These selections come with a healthy side dish option including veggies with hummus, a fruit kabob or small green salad.
The highlight of the menu is the "Kids Adenture Platter" which is a sampling of middle eastern and Indian foods like chicken kabob, hummus, pita, grape leaves and salad. The adventure platter is a great option for kids with a big appetite who like to try new foods.
There are also kid-sized portions of traditional desserts like baklava and "carrot delight" a sweet carrot and almond dessert.
Artist Asheigh Buyers, a student at Mary Washington University, designed an exciting activity placemat for the new kids menu. She incorporated some ideas like an elephant with "chick" peas flying around him and a connect-the-dots activity in the shape of the Taj Mahal.
Some feedback from the new menu at The Trolley Stop Deli:
"Great idea!"
"Love the fruits and veggies instead of chips"
"Love the choices of white, wheat, or whitewheatbread"
"Love the choices of drinks"
Some placemats that children have colored, displayed on the walls of The Trolley Stop:

Shout out to local UMW art students, Ashleigh Buyers, Marie Hamilton and Katie Sleyman, who designed our new Play with Your Plate logo!
