Specific approval and praise makes us want to repeat the behavior. For example say something like, “I was so proud of the way you sat right down and got your spelling done yesterday! You didn't get distracted even once! That was awesome! Do you think you can do that again today?” Be sure to recognize even small successes.

Kids’ interest in math starts early ~ even babies learn the concept of two when they have one cup in each hand and can’t pick up another cup without dropping one. You can keep your child interested in math by incorporating day-to-day activities. Measure how far they have thrown their ball. Count how many steps it takes to get to the front door. Talk about which things are heavier or lighter to carry.

Eating lots of fresh fruit and veggies while pregnant is incredibly important. To keep fresh strawberries longer, wash and cap them and then put them in a colander and pour boiling water over them. By doing so, you kill the bacteria that makes them get moldy & mushy. Afterward, refrigerate as you normally would, and the berries should last a lot longer.

We live next door to an alpaca farm, and she helps the farmer feed the animals 5 mornings a week. Children ARE responsible, if we give them the proper training and the confidence to be so.

Remember sitting next to a favorite adult, watching a thunderstorm, learning how to count slowly from the time you saw the lightning until the time you heard the thunder to determine how far away the storm was. It is moments like this that are most special to children. Take a moment with your child and share something magical about nature this spring. It could be a budding branch on a tree or a squirrel running across the lawn. You will create a memory.

You have a child who is hard to handle. She wants what she wants and she wants it passionately. She doesn’t want to take no for an answer. Try doing a little strategizing and turn this passion into productive use. Try saying “For you to get what you want, you must do what we want first.” If you want to play that video game, you must first do your homework. And stick to your guns. Don’t walk away until the homework is done.

So the kids are fighting again and complaining the other gets better treatment from you. Try saying, “Of course, I don’t treat you both the same. I give each of you what you need.” Emphasize the different strengths and interests and point out how you support them. You can’t possibly treat them the same because they are different people with different skills and personalities.

Most eye injuries in children occur during sports or other active play. Children are especially vulnerable to eye injuries because they often don’t consider that their eyes—and possibly a lifetime of healthy vision—are at stake. Experts agree wearing protective eyewear could prevent ninety percent of these injuries.

A great way to have Preschool kids start to learn the alphabet is with the letters in their name. They get so excited to see it in print and will enjoy pointing out the letters in their name over and over with you. Put their name on everything they own. They will be very possessive of the special letters that are included in their name and will try writing those letters on the pictures they draw.
